On Tuesday, accompanying persons of the Colloquium participants have the opportunity to take part in our Eifel program. Around 9:45 a.m., you will arrive at one of the largest buildings of National Socialism. The former NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang is an expression of the arrogance and contempt for mankind of this time. With the transfer into a civil use in 2006 a new era started: The military training area was given back to nature as part of the Eifel National Park, while the buildings area of the former NS-Ordensburg serves for information, relaxation and diverse learning. After a small coffee break in the museum café, you will visit the permanent exhibition “Destiny: Master Race: the National Socialist Ordensburg from Fascination to Crime”. Various pictures, audio and video documents show the people of this time, their convictions, influences and actions. Afterwards, we invite you to have lunch together in the restaurant Horchem, before you will explore the medieval center of Monschau by foot. There are many small galleries and boutiques in the idyllic half-timber houses and winding alleys, which are open the whole year even on sundays and holidays.

Provost Church Kornelimünster & Kunsthaus NRW

Mostly spared from the wars, the appearance of Kornelimünster is characterized by bourgeois houses from the 17th and 18th century. The quaint Café Münsterländchen is located in the heart of Kornelimünster and invites to small snacks and freshly baked cakes. From 817 to 1802, the provost church St. Kornelius was the abbey of the Benedictine abbey Kornelimünster. The circular tower on one side and the gothic windows in two floors one above the other are only two characteristic features of this church. Afterwards, you will receive insights into the history of art in NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) from 1945 until today. Meanwhile, the collection includes more than 4,000 art works, among them art works from Karl Otto Götz, Emil Schumacher, Ernst Wilhelm Nay and Thomas Ruff. Besides a review on 70 years of art history, the collection shows impressions of the vital art scene of today’s NRW. Finally, we invite you to a joint lunch in the restaurant Goldenes Einhorn located at the Aachen marketplace. A shopping tour through downtown or at the factory outlets of Lindt, Bahlsen or Lambertz could complete your afternoon. On request, our shuttle service will take you to the factory outlets for free.
